Ok, so the podcast name admittedly seems a little sketch in the middle of a pandemic, but it all started in February of 2015 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. On that day in February, when the radiologist gave me the news, I named my cancerous breast “Killer Left Boob” and went on to blog my journey at killerleftboob.com.
As someone who fondly remembers the 80’s, something being called “killer” was a good thing, and I loved the irony.
“One of the saddest things about it all is that breast cancer impacts everything from your confidence, your sex life, your relationships, your mental health. It felt like we needed to open the conversation and shed some light into the darkness of our new reality.” click to tweet
Later, I began the process of turning my blog into a book, and the first working title was “From a Killer Diagnosis to a Killer Life.” The new working title is “Alive in the Ashes,” and the book will be out this year… but more on that later.
As I went through my trek from diagnosis to treatment, and then to healing, I began to notice that there were Facebook groups where breast cancer survivors could connect, but there were so many stigmas around “breasts.” Almost like a dirty word. One of the saddest things about it all is that breast cancer impacts everything from your confidence, your sex life, your relationships, your mental health. It felt like we needed to open the conversation and shed some light into the darkness of our new reality.
There were so many of us who didn’t know what to expect. So many questions. So much pain. So much fear. Such differences in treatment recommendations and protocols. We were literally reaching out and depending on strangers to fill in the gaps that were left by our medical teams.
There were also different treatment paths. Some with breast cancer chose all-natural treatments, some all conventional and some, like me, chose an integrative approach.
Launching this podcast is creating and holding space for the men and women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are walking their trek from diagnosis to reclamation. It is also a space for caregivers as my husband joins me in episodes to talk care-giving, sex, relationships, communications, and stress management. You will find us on your favorite Podcast platform, as well as YouTube at www.youtube.com/c/yourkillerlife and of course you can listen here by clicking Podcast on the menu above. If you would like to be guest, please fill out the guest questionnaire and schedule time on my calendar, if you would like to be an advertiser or sponsor to help us keep the show going, we would love to talk with you and information can be found on our sponsorship page.
Writing my book is allowing me to tell my story in a way that I hope will positively impact others who find themselves on this journey and I am looking forward to updating you all as we start the process of editing, cover design and book launch.
It is so exciting to have you join us and value your opinion, and more importantly, your interaction. We look forward to creating a raw, real, and healing space for us all.
Much love and light,
Tammey & Griff
